Starting Strategy For Weight Loss – For When You Know What to Do But Can’t Get Started

Everyone is eager to tell you want to do to lose weight but what if you are having trouble getting started?  This article shares with you a popular starting strategy for weight loss that I use with my clients, I think it will help spur you into action as well.

Possibly the most common comment I hear from people when they first come to me is that they know almost everything about losing weight effectively yet they just can’t seem to get in the right frame of mind to start and stick with a plan.

Wouldn’t it be great if your weight problem could be solved by simply learning about good eating habits?  But there is more to it than that, weight loss is a challenge and as much as the people selling diet pills would like you to think it is as easy as taking a pill, it is not.

And any time you are faced with a challenge you have two options, the first option is to do nothing but since you are reading this I feel it is safe to say this isn’t a viable option.  The other option is to create a strategy for weight loss and this begins with building your desire.

Desire is what gets the whole ball rolling, without it there is no action and you want to create a desire so strong that you feel like success is your only option.

Yes, I hear you saying that you do have a desire to lose weight and I understand that this is a true statement for most of you.  Really who doesn’t want to lose weight for summer shorts weather or drop a few pounds so their pants don’t fit so tight?  These are common and very valid desires but they aren’t the emotion-driven desires that spur you to change.  Think about it, if your only desire to lose weight is to not feel so fat, then as soon as you lose a few pounds and feel a bit better your motivation to continue on goes out the window.

In order to get your head in the game, get excited about losing weight and continuing to stick with your plan until ALL of the weight is off you must explode your desire.

You want to create a list, a long list of reasons why losing weight is important to you and you want to keep writing until your hand hurts.  Just let your mind go as you list reason after reason and a wonderful thing will happen, you will start to write down things that you had forgotten about or reasons that you were afraid to admit, even to yourself.

These deep-seated reasons have tremendous personal meaning to you and you will know when you hit one because you will feel your emotions well up inside.  This is how you move yourself into the change process.  The emotion you feel is what motivation is all about and by keeping this reason fresh in your mind (write it down somewhere you will read it often) you will find getting started and then sticking to your weight loss plan much easier than you ever imagined.
