Storage Shed Plans – DIY Introduction For Woodworking Beginners

There is a storage shed plan or blueprint for every imaginable purpose because human beings are very active with many interests. Sooner or later the things we accumulate from our activites and our hobbies overpower our living space. We discover that we want or need to make our environment more efficient and/or comfortable.

To me a storage shed is nothing more than a square box. But the purpose of the box is what separates it from being a simple carrying container to being more.

Imagine what it would be like to build a lean to shed housing a few garden tools. The lean to is the simplest of shed designs, an excellent project for a beginning woodworking enthusiast.

The rear of the lean to is supported by an existing wall or building. You would just need to fasten three sheets of pressure treated wood and a sloping roof. The lean to is sheltered by surrounding structures or trees as it is placed under a staircase or against fencing. The front of the lean to is usually left open or you could secure a drop canvas or plastic sheeting.

See yourself in the future possibly building a car shed, otherwise known as a garage, a bicycle shed, motorcycle shed, boat shed, riding lawnmower shed or snow mobile shed.

Do you have a green thumb?

Just picture yourself constructing a greenhouse.

Types of plants will dictate the style and size of the greenhouse. A small greenhouse is great to grow small or starter plans that will be moved to a flower or vegetable garden when seedlings are ready.

Orchids and other larger foliage will require a larger building as these types of hobby plants will remain in the greenhouse.

Think back to when you were a child wishing you had a special room of your own. Today, you can have that room.

The storage shed has advanced to a new level in our modern world. Sheds have become second or an additional room away from the main house. There are many shed blueprint designs that you can choose particular to the function of the building.

The shed design may be A-frame, or barn style with or without a porch, barn shaped garage, pet barn, saltbox style greenhouse, a playhouse, pool cabana, cottage, or a replica of your personal home.

Save Money Building Your Own Wooden Storage Sheds

There are numerous lawn and garden tools that clutter up the garage and make it hard just to get the car in at the end of a long day. Wooden storage sheds provide a great alternative to store these items in a more convenient way. Unfortunately, the price of these sheds are often too expensive.

There are many options available in the do it yourself market for wooden storage sheds. Depending upon your experience level, kits are offered for the beginner to the expert. Another thing to keep in mind is that with a bit of research on YouTube and various other sites that offer videos and plans to see how much you really can or want to do. Some kits come with completely precut lumber and detailed assembly plans for the nuts and bolts. Others let you cut the wood yourself providing detailed instructions but give you the hardware for assembly. A floor is needed in most cases. Wooden platforms can be built or concrete slabs can be poured. Depending on how your foundation is built will change the way you can attach the frame of the shed.

Check the price of precut lumber compared to cutting it yourself. Don’t forget to add in the cost of tools that you may have to buy if you don’t already have them on hand. Also, you have to figure in the space needed to cut the lumber and and store it if necessary. This also has to be considered if you buy a precut kit and cannot assemble it right away.

If you do not have the room to store the lumber inside, it can be stored outside if properly covered and not stacked directly on the ground. Keep in mind that if lumber has not been properly dried and treated, it may start warping in high humidity areas.

With a bit of research, time and elbow grease, you can soon have room for your car in the garage and your tools will all be in your new wooden storage shed you built yourself.
